Having problems drilling into interior wall- Do you have any tips i could follow to put a curtain rail up?
My husband has made several attempts using a cordless drill to drill into the wall. one hole seems to be ok but the other there is only so far it will go. We have fully recharged the diy drill
, got smaller wall plugs, bought a masonry drill bit- all to no avail. Our flat is pretty old but we managed to put up 2 of the exact curtain rails in our bedroom and need to get the nursery sorted ASAP as it is too bright without curtains and the existing blind does not block out light. Is there anything left to try? we are a our wits end and have approx 3 weeks to go until baby appears. Any help greatly appreciated . Thanks
How do I put up curtain rails in thin plaster walls?
My mom decided to do a DIY house makeover, which ended up being very stressful for everyone. We”ve finished painting the walls and refurnished simple areas, the only hard part is putting up new curtain poles. We”ve managed to put up two, which are in the dining room. The first pole was no problem. The second pole is where all the trouble started. When I drilled into the wall, it ended up being way to hollow to put in the plugs. I managed to find a thicker end on the wall and put up the curtain rail pole
. In the living room, there aren”t many thick walls. I drilled three holes for each of the curtain rail pole
hooks. It came out fine; when I did the second hole underneath each one, two of them ended up being ruined. Was I supposed to put anything on top of the walls before doing anything? Am I too late to fix it? If you have any tips or how some of you could
have done poles at home themselves, please post it. All answers are appreciated.
I want instructions on how to grow herbs in painted tin buckets?
I saw these instructions on an Australian TV show and do you think I can find it now??? The herbs were potted into painted old fashioned looking tin buckets and were then hung from the curtain rail in a kitchen window, the rail that normally holds one of those half curtains.
Did anyone see this show? I can’t remember how long ago it was on but I think it was this year
Is it possible to attach curtain rails/screws etc. to UPVC windows?
UPVC windows have recently been installed in my house. Is it possible to attach the fittings required, in order that I may hang curtains and blinds?
Thank you.
Thanks very much to all of you. They have a metal frame inside the window. I do want to put in venetian blinds and roller blinds. No curtains.
I can see it is going to be a difficult choice!
How to replace wooden batten for attaching curtains?
Late 1950s house with wooden batten for hanging curtain rails, the wood is split in one room and won”t hold anything. What”s the leading
way to replace it? The walls are brick, with plaster board
on top. I”m not sure how the existing batten is attached; it”s been painted and sealed so many times that I can”t tell if it is glued on or held up with nails/screws.
who is responsible for hanging curtains in modern houses?
the underlying point is that when windows were made of wood they incorporated hooks to support the curtain rail-now the upvc windows leave no option but to screw in a curtain support and rail separately above the window
incidentally i can see how the net curtain stretche
after two nightmare days of being turfed out of bed by poles replacing the windows i was then left with no curtains
i need the latest in curtain technology bearing in mind that the section above the windows seems to be composed of plaster board
and flakes when i try to insert a nail;who is responsible for this fiasco or have i finally become feeble minded?how much for the equipment or any other suggestions short of defenestration
i can see how the net curtain stretched between the two hooks but i am damned if i can see how the two plastic bits with the metal screw
s through them secured the curtain
my revered ancestors on both sides were builders and i have to admit that this enquiry is beginning to seem like a wack job
How to hang curtains on a track rail?
I’ve just bought some curtains and put hooks in them fine and put them up. Then I tried to close them, but I can’t as they won’t go past these things that attach the track to the wall.
Am I missing something? Did I buy the wrong type of curtain hooks? Or is there a way to hang them that I’m not getting right?
NB: The hooks I’ve been using are the standard ones that sort of look like ears! The track is on a bay window and every six inches or so are the things that keep it to the wall.
Ah, that’ll be it!
Thanks so much for you help! (:
No, not a pelmet track…
Looking for a home solution urgently- PLEASE HELP?
I am getting my room redecorated and instead of a blind I want curtains. However the roof by the the window is sloping. On a visit to Lindisfarne (the big castle on the island) I spotted a great solution where the curtain rail separated and went back flat against the wall and then at night they would be pushed against the window. Does anyone know where I can get these?
